Dedication + Imagination = Sensation
I once read a snippet of a review for this movie, saying that unless one was Japanese, you would miss a lot of the nuance in this movie.
Maybe it did. I still enjoyed it.
Art being treated as legends in this town provide some clever moments of narration, and there's a very "True artists can see how people's imagination would power their fears and hopes" meaning I took from it.
The concept that people's relationship with a piece of art could manifest itself into their reality was very cool.
It's another Japanese animated story that's about someone simply living their life, simple as it is, and not a story with a climax or rising or falling action. I like these stories a lot, just seeing someone's life be different than yours without world ending catastrophe (though those work too) is nice.
