Disney: What They Got From Fox

It's less a merger and more 'eroding competition between corporate giants in America', but hey, let's see what Disney has gained in their acquisition of 20th Century Fox.......'s movie studios.

Small things;

  • Blue Sky, Fox's animation branch, still exists for now, and multiple projects are in development from the man who gave us "Monster Trucks"
    • The "Ice Age" franchise is now Disney property. Will we see a "Frozen" crossover?
  • Disney now owns the rights to "Alita: Battle Angel", which I loved. They have enough money to fund a sequel. They fund about 2 flops a year, it can be done.

Big Things;

Disney now totally owns Star Wars...in a year.

While the company bought Lucasfilm in 2012, 20th Century Fox still held the distribution rights to the original 6 "Star Wars" films. Even with the March 20th, 2019 merger, Fox still owns those rights until May 2020, 43 years after  the first film.

My guess? Expect a very fancy 9-movie box set next year. Will the original movies be Despecialized?

Disney can make a worthy "Percy Jackson" movie or show.

In the late 2000s, everyone wanted a piece of that "Harry Potter" pie that was a lucrative YA-film franchise with a built-in audience of rabid nerds. "The Hunger Games" was the most successful follower. "Divergent" was poised to be bigger; 3/4 of its books were made into movies, and even a TV show in the works.

Until someone at Summit (Distributors of "Twilight") and Lionsgate ("The Hunger Games") realized the returns were pretty weak.

All of that to say; 20CF owned theatrical rights to Percy Jackson and made two movies "The Lightning Thief" and "The Sea of Monsters", both of which were not too faithful and have few fans among the book readers.

Seeing as how Disney has finally put "Artemis Fowl" to film, maybe down the line they will resurrect the Greek God's son.

The Fantastic Four are now out of 'Shit superhero movie' purgatory...we hope.

The First Family of Marvel in the comics, the Frequently Failing Franchises of movies. Since the very first unreleased film in 1994 (Though yours truly has seen it on premium movie channels and Youtube!), they have not had too much luck hopping to the big screen (In anything not called "The Incredibles").

The trajectory of the Fantastic Four movies throughout the years is best described as a downward slope. [src]

Now, they can be integrated into the MCU proper, as well as the X-Men - Though where does "New Mutants" stand in all this?

Props if they can actually cast an Eastern European as Doctor Doom, despite how fond I am of the last one.

They Also Own the Merc With a Mouth

Yep, Deadpool is Disney now. Though Iger has said that he will remain as R-Rated as he was with Fox.
