After stealing a mysterious music box, 13-year-old, Anne Boonchuy (Brenda Song) is magically transported to the world of Amphibia, a wild marshland full of talking frog-people. With the help of an excitable young frog named Sprig, Anne will transform from monster to hero and discover the first true friendship of her life!
It visually looks nice, though I fear that in time, like "Star", the story will outgrow the style, but for now it's really pretty.
The jokes are surprisingly funny. While there is that constantly recurring humor theme of "Wow that got dark quick for a moment", there's good environmental humor, and I always appreciate that.
It didn't immediately capture me like "Star" did, but it has more going for it in this first episode than "Greens" did with theirs, and that is one of my favorite new shows on the channel.
I'm especially interested in how it will showcase Anne's culture, as she's Thai-American. And it's not just lip service -
It's basically 'Thai girl brings culture to middle of nowhere and everyone learns something'.
I'll keep watching.
