Movie News Roundup: Into The Tom Hollandverse

I like Tom Holland. While he's not my first choice for white British male actor to stan, he is a firm #2 and seems like a good kid.

Friday, September 27th, was probably a very exciting day for this young man.

First, and possibly least exciting, there was a new trailer for the long-awaited Blue Sky Studios feature SPIES IN DISGUISE.

'Disguise'....'The skies'...get it?

Super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is … not. But when events take an unexpected turn, this unlikely duo are forced to team up for the ultimate mission that will require an almost impossible disguise – transforming Lance into the brave, fierce, majestic… pigeon. Walter and Lance suddenly have to work as a team, or the whole world is in peril. “Spies in Disguise” flies into theaters this Christmas.

It's not something I kept a close eye on, but it seems fine. Will it be the late-year animated stunner like last year's INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE? Probably not. I do like those music choices!

Next up, hey, do you know about Uncharted? The video game? Nathan Drake? Never played it myself, I don't think it made it to Nintendo consoles. But its film adaptation did get a director (again) in Travis Knight. You know, the dude who owns Laika Studios, directed BUMBLEBEE and KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS.

What if I told you about...Chilly T?

Yep. That dude. UNCHARTED has a hope of coming out December 18th, 2020.

Finally, and most exciting for those thoands of people who cried all over Sony's Instagram page about it for a month, is that both giant conglomerates of Disney and Sony have reached a deal that doesn't rob Sony blind and still gets Disney some more money; Spider-Man (live action) can remain in the MCU...for now.

 From Complex:

The falling out the two companies had allegedly stemmed over Disney's desire to finance the film on a 50/50 basis, but Sony wanted to stick with the 5 percent first-dollar gross and merchandising revenues Marvel had received from the films. Insiders have indicated the new deal, which was signed on Thursday, will net Marvel and Disney 25 percent of the profits.

It's a one-picture solo deal with one more appearance in another MCU movie. So expect the negotiations to start again around this time in 2021.
