#8: Kim Possible (2019)

For those unaware, Kim Possible was an amazing show that aired on Disney Channel in the early to mid 2000s about a teenage crimefighter name Kim Possible.

The kicker? It wasn't a secret. Everyone knew who she was and what she did. She had to balance an after-school job, work, and cheerleading practice with saving the world and stopping crime.

Why Disney decided to reboot it into a live-action movie isn't surprising - Girl power. In fact, they give Kim a female friend earlier than they did in the show, and they also beef up the cast with her mother and grandmother being former fighters as well - ...but why they decided to make it a TV movie is.

Disney Channel Original Movies are cheap; As much as I love the Descendants franchise, it looks and feels cheap and silly.

So having Kim Possible, a show originally animated, but now in live action with not enough budget...It could be worse. It really is only obvious and bad in the opening action sequence.

The writing is surprisingly on point and funny!
I think Sadie Stanley is the weak link here but she's honestly not that weak. There was a (and I hate this word) sassiness to cartoon Kim that would be very hard for anyone to replicate in live action.

Everyone else does such an amazing job for a TV movie about a cartoon that ended ages ago. Taylor Ortega as Shego really steals the show.

The plot is unsurprisingly predictable for the most part, though it does get surprisingly dark and somewhat deep, as shallow as a venti frappuccino. The updated technology doesn't hinder or make the film feel dated.

It could be far, far worse. But it could be better in having actual stakes and consequences.
